When it came to finding a second wide receiver to complement Chad Ochocinco, the top target all along was Antonio Bryant.
Despite Ochocinco's public campaign to bring Terrell Owens to Cincinnati, Bryant's four-year deal provides the Bengals with a variety of options going forward.
For one, it gives the Bengals a deep threat that they were lacking, especially during the second half of last season when Chris Henry was lost for the year. The Bengals had only 12 pass plays last year that went for 25 yards or more.
It also gives them a possible future No. 1 receiver. Ochocinco is entering an option year in 2011 and he is entering his 10th season this year. Bryant was the top receiver in San Francisco and Tampa Bay, so it would be a role that he would adapt to.

Antonio Bryant is the latest complementary receiver to Chad Ochocinco in Cincinnati. Bryant signed a four-year deal with the Bengals on Friday. He ostensibly replaced Laveranues Coles, who spent the 2009 season with the team, but then was released. "It was definitely a plus to me that this team really seemed to want me," Bryant said in a conference call.

Defensive tackle Tank Johnson has signed a four-year deal to stay with the Cincinnati Bengals. Johnson started 13 games last season despite a case of plantar faciitis in his right foot that limited his mobility and caused a lot of pain. He felt better as the season went along, and tied for the team lead with 10 tackles in a playoff loss to the Jets.

Terrell Owens headed to Cincinnati on Tuesday to see if the Bengals are interested in adding him to their stalled-out passing game. The 36-year-old receiver tweeted on Tuesday that he was on his way to meet with team officials. Receiver Chad Ochocinco has been lobbying for the Bengals to sign Owens since the end of last season, when the Bengals' passing game lacked a deep threat.

Receiver Laveranues Coles is a free agent again after one disappointing season with the Cincinnati Bengals, who had hoped to make him a pillar of their passing game. The Bengals released the 32-year-old receiver on Thursday, exactly one year after he signed a four-year deal to replace T.J. Houshmandzadeh.
