Pittsburgh has approached free agency as it has in the past. There has not nor will there be any major signings, and those who overpriced themselves on their own team were allowed to enter the market as free agents.

Actually, only one player really overpriced himself and that was free safety Ryan Clark. They wanted to sign him, but his idea of what he was worth and their willingness to pay were not anywhere near each other.

They already are paying Troy Polamalu an average of $6.5 million a year with his cap number over $8 million in 2010 and they are not about to sink more than $6 million into their other safety.

They signed five-time Pro Bowl nose tackle Casey Hampton and put the franchise tag on Jeff Reed.

Browns president Mike Holmgren likes his quarterbacks big and tall, but in the case of Seneca Wallace, at 5-foot-11 the shortest quarterback in the NFL, he was willing to make an exception.

Holmgren coached Wallace in Seattle from 2003 until the end of the 2008 season when Holmgren took a year-long sabbatical from the NFL.

Acquiring Wallace paved the way for the Browns to release Derek Anderson on March 9 before they had to pay Anderson a $2 million roster bonus on March 19. It also clears the way for Brady Quinn to be the starting quarterback—unless the job goes to Wallace, or unless Quinn is traded; Holmgren has made it clear numerous times he does not like quarterback derbies in training camp.

Wallace, a fourth-round draft choice by Seattle in 2003, did...

The Ravens retained the most prolific wide receiver in team history, re-signing Derrick Mason to a two-year, $8 million contract. He is set to receive $3.5 million in the first year.

The return of Mason bolsters a vastly improved passing attack for the Ravens, who signed Donte' Stallworth and traded for Anquan Boldin this offseason. Mason, though, brings continuity and consistency.

Since joining the Ravens in 2005, he is the team's all-time leader in receiving yards (4,975) and ranks second in receptions (410) and receiving touchdowns (22).

"We know exactly what we're getting with Derrick, and that's production," general manager Ozzie Newsome said. "Every Ravens fan knows what Derrick brings to this team.

When it came to finding a second wide receiver to complement Chad Ochocinco, the top target all along was Antonio Bryant.

Despite Ochocinco's public campaign to bring Terrell Owens to Cincinnati, Bryant's four-year deal provides the Bengals with a variety of options going forward.

For one, it gives the Bengals a deep threat that they were lacking, especially during the second half of last season when Chris Henry was lost for the year. The Bengals had only 12 pass plays last year that went for 25 yards or more.

It also gives them a possible future No. 1 receiver. Ochocinco is entering an option year in 2011 and he is entering his 10th season this year. Bryant was the top receiver in San Francisco and Tampa Bay, so it would be a role that he would adapt to.
