Coach Jeff Fisher had hoped the Tennessee Titans would have their top draft pick on the field for the first practice of training camp. Friday there was no Kenny Britt in sight. Fisher now is hoping to have the receiver around Saturday. "It looks like things have fallen into place around him, so I'm optimistic.

A day after the St. Louis Rams took Jason Smith with the second pick of the draft, the offensive tackle vowed to be in training camp on time. On Friday, he wore No. 77 as he took the field for the first full-squad workout under new coach Steve Spagnuolo. Smith made it just under the wire, signing a five-year contract Thursday.

Harrison revealed while reporting to training camp on Friday that he didn't follow his coaches' orders on his 100-yard interception return touchdown that ended the first half against Arizona on Feb.

Sanchez gets slight edge in Jets’ QB battle (AP)

Mark Sanchez received the slight edge from coach Rex Ryan on Friday in the first practice of what could be a summer-long competition with Kellen Clemens to be the New York Jets' starting quarterback. "It probably wasn't the best day in throwing completions, but I thought Sanchez had a really good day," Ryan said after the morning practice.

The starting quarterback job was again his to seize, but Tarvaris Jackson didn't exactly jump for joy. Brett Favre's decision to remain retired rocked the Minnesota Vikings and returned the competition to Jackson and Sage Rosenfels, but when his buddies checked in with him after hearing the news earlier this week Jackson surprised them with his lack of excitement.

The Kansas City Chiefs didn't get a leisurely day of meetings and meals to kick off training camp. They ran. Not just a shake-out-the-cobwebs run. A timed run, the last part of their pre-camp physicals. Don't make time, don't practice Saturday. Clearly, this isn't the pat-on-the back, glad-to-see-you greeting the Chiefs got from coach Herm Edwards.
